A book tracing a Lewis mother
As Neil Armstrong first-footed the moon, Irene Lewis Ward and her husband Bob took their first steps into the past to solve a mystery that had haunted her father all his life: who were his mother and his maternal kin?
With this fascinating story began our interest in the Lewis surname as we attempted to enhance the published book with a tree that matched up all the people mentioned.
The idea of a large collaborative one name study had been suggested before, and it seemed serendipitous that we came across a surname with wide geographical and historical scope that was common enough that it would feature in many members’ existing research, and manageable as a long term project.
